Language tandems
What exactly is a language tandem?
A language tandem is a form of learning and improving a foreign language by talking to one or more language learners with different mother tongues. The tandem partnership is not associated with a language course and does not follow a curriculum. It is organised and realised autonomously. It gives you the chance to make friends, improve your language skills and gain intercultural competencies. Thus, a tandem partner complements a language course perfectly. You can brush up your language skills when talking to your partner and expand your vocabulary in everyday and colloquial language.
A language tandem is not suitable for absolute beginners. Learners should have a rudimentary understanding of the language. As the usage of a third language reduces the effectiveness and learning outcome, it is not recommended to use a third language in addition to the mother tongues of the tandem partners.
Tandem partners can meet in person or online (e.g. via Facebook, Skype or Zoom) and individually arrange the dates and times.
If you are interested in joining a language tandem, please download and fill in the following form, sign it and send it back to us. We will find a matching tandem partner for you.
